Video game design schools are no laughing matter

Here in little old Liverpool I love to read about what’s going on in the online New York Times. An article caught my eye today about the rise of video game design schools: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/22/arts/design/22vide.html?th&emc=th

Once seen as what we over here would call a “mickey mouse” subject, video games design programs are now being given the respect they deserve, and schools - both online and traditional are springing up to meet the demand.

For there is a great demand for video games designers. Video games outsell many more conventional media these days. There is barely a movie goes by without a tie-in video game. Some traditional design schools are jumping on the band wagon, and video games design companies are also setting up, or sponsoring, schools of their own.

Video games design schools are now offering both post-graduate and undergraduate programs, and while some other areas of technology are witnessing a slowdown, video games design looks set to run and run. Before long, we can expect video games about virtual video games design schools - well why not? There are many many areas of video games design to be plumbed before this massive industry even thinks about slowing down.
